Introduction to Star Project

The star project is an inter-organizational workflow that makes use of our powerful user roles and permissions feature. An Owner or a Project Admin manages an entire project while a Contributor is invited to contribute to the project. A Visitor can browse analysis results within the project.

Note that a Contributor can belong to a group which can include different users with different roles.

The Star Project structure is perfect for multi-site studies in which every site can only access their own data while an Owner or Project Admin can access all the data within the study.

The Owner is permitted to...

  • Include/exclude other users within the project.
  • Assign roles to other users within the project.
  • Manage all data within the project (i.e. view, create, edit, delete data). This includes the data of other users within the project.
  • The owner cannot be removed from the project.

A Project Admin is permitted to...

  • Include/exclude other users within the project.
  • Assign roles to other users within the project.
  • Manage all data within the project (i.e. view, create, edit, delete data). This includes the data of other users within the project.

A Contributor is permitted to...

  • Manage data and run analyses for own data.
  • Browse the data and analyses of other contributors only in the same group.

A Visitor is permitted to...

  • Browse final analysis results collected from Contributors (a Visitor cannot see raw data)

Our roles and permissions architecture is flexible allowing to define more complex types of project. For instance within a group (or site), further roles can be defined such as Site PI or Site Coordinator. We can also define roles that are site independed such as Diagnostic Adjudicator or Neuroradiologist QA.
